Impending Storm is the third painting in my plein air beach series. On this day, a storm was truly on its way—dark clouds stretched across the horizon, and you could feel the air shift as the waves rolled in heavier. I set up my easel right there on the shore, knowing I only had a little time before the skies opened.
Between playing in the water with my grandkids and walking the beach with my family, I wanted to capture this moment—the tension, the mood, and the beauty that comes just before the rain. To me, it’s a reminder that the ocean is never the same twice, and sometimes its most breathtaking moments are the ones filled with anticipation.
